BioOntology
Gene Regulation Ontology ("GRO")
The Gene Regulation Ontology as developed within the BOOTStrep project has got its own website, hosted at EBI:
http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Rebholz-srv/GRO/GRO.html.
The website provides the ontology for download and gives additional information about the resource. The ontology specifically models the domain of gene regulation and contains relevant primitive concepts from well-known ontologies (e.g. Gene Ontology, Sequence Ontology) and properties that represent semantic relations between the concepts.
BioTop
A domain upper ontology for the life sciences, using OWL-DL, aligned with BFO, DOLCE lite and the UMLS Semantic Network, with links to several OBO ontologies:

BioOntology Enrichment and Alignment Toolkit (BEAT)
For joining the various relevant ontologies in
GRO in a formally controlled and automatically supported way, we developed a tooling environment to support a modular construction approach. This platform enables the execution of alignment steps and services such as storage, query-answering, merging and inferences on ontologies or the results of alignments. It enables the user to easily add new components and facilitates the development of new components of the alignment framework. This
BioOntology Enrichment and Alignment Toolkit (BEAT) is a software framework to handle persistence, alignment, queries, reasoning on ontologies. It is specifically targeted to the bio-ontology domain and to the Semantic Web community. The system is now part of the sourceforge set of open source software and can be downloaded from the sourceforge website (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/beat/).
